A dash means the denominator is zero, so that metric cannot be calculated. Currency selection changes the label, not the exchange rate.
A worked comparison
The lowest CPL does not tell the whole story.
Two fictional campaigns each spend ₹20,000. They use the same qualification rule. These are arithmetic examples, not MDA performance results.
| Measure | Campaign A | Campaign B |
|---|---|---|
| Enquiries | 100 | 60 |
| Qualified enquiries | 10 | 24 |
| Cost per enquiry | ₹200 | ₹333.33 |
| Cost per qualified enquiry | ₹2,000 | ₹833.33 |
Campaign B has a higher cost per enquiry and a lower cost per qualified enquiry. That gives you a useful reason to investigate quality before moving the budget. It does not prove profitability; admissions, revenue and costs still matter.
Use it carefully
Make the comparison fair.
Write the qualification rule first
For a course, a suitable enquiry might match the learning mode, location, availability and course need. The exact rule belongs to the business. Apply it consistently rather than changing the rule to make a campaign look better.
Use the same period and costs
A new enquiry may take time to become an admission. Compare cohorts with enough time to progress, and decide whether you are measuring advertising spend alone or a wider acquisition cost.
Investigate the reason
A weak qualification rate may reflect the offer, audience, message, location, form or follow-up. Use the calculation to choose a question to investigate, not to blame a channel from one number.
Before you decide
Good questions. Clear answers.
What is the difference between CPL and cost per qualified lead?
CPL divides campaign spend by all enquiries. Cost per qualified lead divides the same spend by enquiries that meet a clear qualification rule. Define the rule before comparing campaigns.
Can a higher CPL still be a better result?
Yes. A campaign with fewer but more suitable enquiries may cost less per qualified enquiry or admission. Compare campaigns using the same qualification rule, spend scope and attribution period.
Does this calculator include staff or course-delivery costs?
Only if you include those costs in the spend you enter. The result is not profit or return on investment. Keep the cost definition consistent between comparisons.
Is the data saved or sent to MDA?
The calculation runs in your browser. The download contains only the numbers you enter. Do not include student or customer personal information in a calculation note.
